UWP Co-Founder Pens Op/Ed on Changing Industry Dynamics
Dissecting “the illusion of ownership” in wealth management aggregator models
In his opinion piece published in Family Wealth Report, Uniting Wealth Partners co-founder John Phoenix contends that the wealth management business is shifting, and advisors who adjust accordingly will benefit most from the changes.
The word “independence” has varying definitions in the industry, but Phoenix writes that true independence can be determined by asking some questions, including: Who truly benefits from business growth? What’s the structure of RIA ownership models? Who dictates strategy and an exit timeline? And what’s in it for clients?
“With more choice has come more confusion. Nearly every platform today claims to be advisor-friendly and promises equity, flexibility, and partnership. Yet beneath the surface, the structures, incentives, and long-term outcomes can vary dramatically,” Phoenix wrote.
