For Lukáš Sedláček, joining the Slovak club is more than a career move.
From next season, HC Prešov will have an interesting addition to their roster. For the first time in his career, Slovak-American ice hockey player Lukáš Sedláček, 24, will play in Europe, the club announced on its website.
More importantly, he will suit up for a team based in the town where his mother was born.
Sedláček is a first-generation Slovak American and holds both Slovak and US citizenship. His mother moved to the United States in 1989, while his father, originally from the town of Jeseník in eastern Czechia, followed in 1995. The two later met in New York and lived on Staten Island when the future hockey player was born.
According to Sedláček, he still has a large family in and around Prešov, many of whom are expected to cheer him on during the next two seasons.
