A new uniform law is on the anvil for administration of the tri-commissionerate area constituting the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation. The statute, named as CURE Act, will govern the affairs of the Core Urban Region which unifies all the three commissionerates into a single megapolis, with uniform administrative framework. In effect, it will replace the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955, which may stand repealed.A draft notification of the new Act may be placed in the public domain in the first week of June, for claims and objections from citizens and stakeholders, officials informed. Assuring that it will not be a replica of the GHMC Act, they say several amendments are being proposed in almost all the wings - including Town Planning, Property Tax and others. The current exercise has roots in the government’s decision six months ago, when it had merged the 27 peripheral urban local bodies with the existing GHMC expanding its purview to the Outer Ring Road. Later, the expanded corporation was divided into three municipal corporations-- GHMC, Malkajgiri and Cyberabad.Already, the public grievance redressal, online tax payment and other such structures of the three corporations have been integrated into a single platform under CURE. While commissioners exist for all the three corporations, they function under the guidance of the Special Officer Jayesh Ranjan, who is reviewing the affairs of the three ULBs. A new Metropolitan Administration & Urban Development department has been carved out of the Municipal Administration & Urban Development department, exclusively for administrative decisions with regard to the CURE region.Officials surmise that the elections for the three corporations may be held after the CURE Act is passed successfully. Term of the GHMC council came to an end in February, 2026, and elections are due for the three corporations. Published - May 27, 2026 08:55 pm IST
