Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar on Wednesday received from a delegation of Udupi District Mobile Retailers Association seven mobile phones that were stolen.

A group of mobile phone shop owners returned to Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar on Wednesday a set of seven phones after finding on the Sanchar Saathi portal of the Department of Telecommunications that they were stolen.In a statement, Mr. Shankar said some mobile shop owners got suspicious over some phones sold to them. They checked the Sanchar Saathi portal and found those phones as blacklisted. The sellers did not give shop owners the original documents related to the mobile phones.A delegation of Udupi District Mobile Retailers’ Association led by president Vivek G. Suvarna met Mr.. Shankar on Wednesday and handed over the mobile phones. The police will search the original owner through CEIR portal and hand over the phones to them, he said.Cautioning people against buying mobile phones without original documents, Mr. Shankar said buyers should first check the genuineness of the phone on the Sanchar Saathi portal or app. The genuniness of the mobile phone should be checked using the sim card of the seller, he stated.
