Toho has confirmed that “Dorohedoro” is in production on a third season.

The anime’s second season concluded in April.

“Dorohedoro” is adapted from Q Hayashida’s manga of the same name, which debuted in 2000 and ran for 18 years across 23 volumes. The property built a dedicated international following over that span through its unique worldview, dark humor and chaotic storytelling. When the anime adaptation first arrived in 2020, it defied expectations for a screen adaptation and went on to earn strong critical notices.

The anime follows Caiman, an amnesiac man whose head was transformed into that of a lizard by a sorcerer, and his partner Nikaido as they search for the one responsible for the curse. No release timeline for Season 3 has been announced.

MAPPA, the animation studio behind the previous two seasons – also known for “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “Zombie Land Saga” – will again handle production. Hayashi Yuichiro, who directed both earlier seasons as well as “Attack on Titan: The Final Season,” is returning to the helm. To mark the announcement, Hayashi shared a commemorative illustration of the character Haru mid-song.
