Nagapattinam Collector P. Akash has said compensation and rehabilitation assistance are being provided to eligible persons affected by land acquisition for the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) project in Panangudi, Gopurajapuram and Narimanam villages in the district.In a press release, Mr.Akash said administrative sanction had been accorded under G.O. Ms. No. 52, Industries (MIA-1) Department, dated January 31, 2019, for the acquisition of 247.78.15 hectares of land under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.The land was acquired through land acquisition proceedings and direct negotiations with landowners, and compensation for the acquired land had already been disbursed to landowners, he said.Mr. Akash stated that rehabilitation and resettlement compensation was being provided, based on recommendations of the district-level committee, to eligible persons including landowners, cultivators, tenants, landless agricultural labourers and persons who had parted with less than one acre of land through direct negotiations. The compensation is being disbursed in accordance with G.O. Ms. No. 159, Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce (MIA-1) Department, dated October 25, 2025.Mr.Akash also said the eligible beneficiaries would receive compensation directly in their bank accounts through the ECS mode.
