Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan said he would study the ways to introduce Tamil in medical and engineering exams.Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said in response to a question regarding TVK’s election manifesto promise to this effect that exclusion of Tamil in medical and engineering exams was due to a technical reason. He further said, “I will discuss this further with Higher Education Department officials. We are going to act according to the guidance of the Chief Minister and are awaiting his decision. I will definitely discuss this question with the officials of the Higher Education Ministry.”On the clash between the cadres of the VCK and the DMK, Mr. Vishwanathan said, “What the Congress desires is that there should be no fights or clashes. Democratic traditions must be maintained.” VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan had said very clearly that a confrontational approach should not be adopted, he added.“Clashes are unnecessary and uncalled for. We are here to serve the people, and we must reflect the public’s opinion; there should be no room for a violent approach,” he said.On the Mekedatu dam issue, Mr. Vishwanathan said, “We will not allow the Karnataka government to place even a single brick for the dam. The Congress will stand firmly by whatever the stance of the Tamil Nadu CM is.”To strengthen the hands of the CM and to take this governance forward for five years, the Congress would stand behind him supportively as an iron fortress, he asserted.
