Electric two-wheeler maker Ola Electric is looking to launch a commercial vehicle aimed at gig workers, targeting the growing quick commerce and ecommerce delivery market, according to people aware of the matter.Sources said the company received approval for the new vehicle in early February and is expected to launch the model in the coming quarters.“Ola is looking at targeting the commercial segment. While the prices have not been decided, it will be the first in this category. Demand has been high for commercial vehicles, given the cost pressure,” one of the persons cited above said.The person added that with existing production capacity already in place through its Ola Futurefactory, the company could manufacture as many as 20,000 units per month.The commercial and B2B electric two-wheeler market has been expanding rapidly, driven by demand from ecommerce companies such as Amazon and Flipkart, along with hyperlocal delivery platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, Zepto, and Blinkit.Details on whether the new fleet vehicles will be sold directly in the market or through partnerships with quick commerce and ecommerce players are yet to be disclosed. According to sources, the e-two-wheeler is being designed to support payloads of 120-150 kg.The vehicle has received approval from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) meant for a rider and a pillion.Experts said entry into the B2B segment would allow Ola to reduce dependence on cyclical consumer demand while securing large fleet orders from delivery and logistics firms.Ola's new launch comes as demand for electric vehicles rises amid increasing fuel prices and uncertainty around the geopolitical situation. In the company’s earnings call, founder and chief executive Bhavish Aggarwal said, “Demand for EVs has gone up meaningfully in the last few weeks. While other competitors will need to do more capex as well as new product rollouts, we have both our automotive and gigafactory capacity covered because all the capex is now behind us.”None of the top five EV two-wheeler makers currently operates in this segment. However, a number of smaller startups and fleet-focussed players are building commercial EV offerings for delivery riders.Companies such as Quantum Energy offer dedicated B2B fleet vehicles through their Bziness series and have partnered with battery-swapping firms for last-mile delivery operations. Shared mobility platform Yulu has developed purpose-built low-speed electric vehicles such as the Yulu DeX for delivery executives.Other companies including Bounce, Zypp Electric, MoEVing, and Baaz Bikes are also competing in the space through fleet leasing and EV-as-a-service models.According to company disclosures, Zomato had 576,000 monthly active delivery partners on average in Q4 FY26, while Blinkit had 409,000 and Swiggy had 612,000 partners. “We are working towards rebuilding our national market share to 15-20% over the next six months,” Aggarwal has said in the company’s letter to shareholders.Ola Electric reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 500 crore for the quarter ended March 2026, narrowing 42.5% from Rs 870 crore a year earlier, helped by lower expenses. In the previous quarter, the company had reported a loss of Rs 487 crore.Its revenue from operations declined 56.6% on-year to Rs 265 crore in the quarter from Rs 611 crore a year earlier, according to the company.
