NewsUK NewsMerseyside PolicePolice are investigating whether a video appearing to show two men 'swinging weapons' is linked to a knife incident on Crosby beach in Sefton15:40, 27 May 2026Police appeal for information about Crosby beach incidentPolice are investigating whether a video which appears to show men "swinging weapons" on a Merseyside beach is linked to a knife incident that led to a teenager being taken to hospital.Merseyside Police were called to Crosby beach at around 5.50pm on bank holiday Monday following reports of a disturbance close to the boating lake.A 19-year-old woman sustained a graze to her head and a superficial scratch to her arm "believed to have been from a bladed weapon". She was taken to hospital for assessment and has since been discharged.Police arrested a 16-year-old boy from Litherland yesterday on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and section 47 assault. He has since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.The force has now confirmed it is also investigating a video which appears to show two men swinging long objects at a group of people, to see if it is connected to the knife incident.Merseyside Police Detective Inspector Edward Barr said: "This investigation is very much ongoing and we'd welcome any more information from those people who were in the area at the time and who have yet to come forward."Likewise, if you saw anything suspicious or any incidents earlier in the day, please get in touch as soon as possible as we continue to piece together the circumstances."I am also aware of social media videos which appear to show other persons swinging weapons towards people at the location. We are making efforts to identify all of the people involved and establish whether this is connected."He asked for people to get in touch with the force rather than speculate on social media if they have information as that could "jeopardise our investigation at a later date".Armed police were called to the beach in the wake of the incidents, with images appearing to show officers walking through the sand dunes, reports the Liverpool Echo.Addressing the teenager injured by a blade incident, DI Barr said: "Although the victim sustained only minor injuries, this will have nevertheless been a distressing experience for her and any witnesses and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened as we investigate.“We are always completely committed to responding swiftly to any information we receive about the possession and use of weapons to assault or threaten people in our communities. You can report any such concerns to police or anonymously via Crimestoppers, and we will take action. Always call 999 if an incident is in progress.”Temperatures have reached past 30C in many parts of the country including Merseyside, with thousands of people flocking to beaches over the weekend.Article continues belowSuperintendent Phil Mullally said officers dealt with "multiple reports of disturbances" at Sefton's railway stations, on beaches and on the roads.
