Expressing concern over the rise in road accidents across Kurnool district, Collector A. Siri on Wednesday directed the officials to expedite pending road safety works and ensure that accident-prone locations are made safer for commuters at the earliest.The Collector, along with Adoni MLA P. Parthasarathi and Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patil, inspected several black spots on the newly-laid bypass road in Adoni town. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India, Transport, Police, and Revenue departments were also present during the field visit.Ms. Siri said the government was giving top priority to public safety and stressed that even small delays in completing safety-related works could put lives at risk. She said that although the 7.5-km stretch from Adoni Y-junction to Alur bypass had already been completed, a number of supporting works were still pending. The Collector instructed officials to immediately launch junction improvements, drainage works, shifting of electric poles, and installation of reflectors, caution boards, and side signals.The Collector also visited accident-prone spots on Adoni bypass, Arekal, Banavasi, Chilakaladona, and Mantralayam road to inspect traffic conditions and identify possible risks.Ms. Siri informed the officials to prepare time-bound plans and complete all pending work before the monsoon.Meanwhile, SP Vikrant Patil said rash driving, triple riding, and drunk driving continued to be the leading causes of accidents.
