Liverpool winger Kieran Morrison has signed a new four-year contract to keep him at Anfield until 2030.The deal follows the 19-year-old being shortlisted for the Premier League Two player of the year, having contributed 15 goals and seven assists for Liverpool’s under-21 side this term.Morrison, who earlier on Wednesday was called up by Northern Ireland for the June friendlies against Guinea and France, was given his senior Liverpool debut by Arne Slot in the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield last October and he featured in the FA Cup win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in March.As well as those two first-team appearances, Morrison has been an unused substitute on 13 occasions. He has trained regularly with Slot’s first-team squad and has endeared himself to coaching staff and senior professionals with his attitude and application.Morrison, who joined Liverpool from Manchester United at under-14 level in 2019, has kicked on impressively this season under the guidance of under-21 head coach Rob Page, who handed him the captaincy.He’s expected to be part of the first-team squad for the start of pre-season in July before Liverpool make a decision over whether to sanction a loan to give him more senior experience.Morrison, who had one year remaining on his previous deal, is already attracting strong loan interest from clubs in the Championship and elsewhere in Europe.Morrison a long-term Liverpool prospectAnalysis by Gregg EvansThis extension is with one eye on the future, so don’t expect Morrison to be making an immediate impact in the first team.It’s most likely that he leaves on loan next season to further his development and get the required senior minutes to help give him a chance in the years ahead.Aged 19, the Northern Ireland international emerged as one of the most exciting talents in the academy.His attacking figures stack up nicely and he constantly demands the ball in tight spaces and is able to unlock defences with clever movement and incisive passing.Slot has also used him regularly in first-team training and named him in the squad on 15 occasions, most often to cover for injuries to other attacking players.Morrison made his full debut in the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace and came off the bench in the 3-1 victory over Wolves in the FA Cup.With a successful loan, Liverpool will hope he can compete seriously for a place within the first team in years ahead.
