Farmers cultivating green gram and black gram in the district can sell their produce under the Price Support Scheme and benefit from the minimum support price announced by the Union government, Collector R. Elambahavath has said.In a release, the Collector said the State government had been taking several initiatives to increase agricultural production and improve farmers’ income. As part of the efforts, procurement of pulses cultivated during the 2025-26 rabi season was being undertaken to safeguard the interests of farmers. Under the scheme, procurement would be carried out through the Salem Regulated Market functioning under the Salem Marketing Committee of the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Agri Business till July 9, 2026. A target had been fixed to procure one metric tonne of green gram and 500 metric tonnes of black gram in the district.Farmers were advised to bring produce that was properly cleaned, dried and free from foreign materials. The moisture content should be below 12% and the produce should conform to prescribed quality standards. The procurement price for quality green gram had been fixed at ₹87.68 per kg and black gram at ₹78 per kg. The payment amount would be credited directly to the bank accounts of farmers. Farmers interested in availing themselves of the scheme can register and sell their produce at the Salem Regulated Market by producing copies of their chitta, adangal, Aadhaar card and bank passbook.The Collector appealed to pulse growers in the district to make use of the scheme introduced by the State government to ensure remunerative prices for their produce.
