In a statement delivered on Wednesday, Hamas confirmed the death of Mohammed Odeh, the head of Hamas' armed wing in Gaza, following an Israeli strike.

The attack hit a residential building in al-Rimal neighbourhood, west of Gaza City, on Tuesday night.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said on Wednesday that the Israeli attack had killed Odeh, along with his wife and three children.

Odeh succeeded former commander Izz al-Din al-Haddad in mid-May after Haddad was killed alongside his wife, daughter and other Palestinian civilians in an Israeli strike in a breach of the ceasefire agreement.
