Professional basketball player Heo Ung of the Busan KCC Egis, who was indicted on charges of defaming his ex-girlfriend, denied all allegations during his first formal trial on Wednesday.
The Seoul Central District Court held its first hearing in the case involving alleged violations of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, namely defamation.

“In February 2024, Heo arranged for media reports with claims about his former partner’s abortion, monetary demands and alleged drug use to be published,” the prosecutors stated. “In July of the same year, he appeared on a YouTube channel and disclosed details about the victim’s abortion and requests for money, thereby damaging her reputation by publicly revealing private information with the intent to defame her.”
