As Zack Hudson tries to scupper Vicki Fowler's wedding to Ross Marshall, actress Alice Haig has revealed why Vicki had an affair with the best man and addresses fans' 'incest' concerns13:09, 27 May 2026Updated 13:10, 27 May 2026Vicki Fowler and Ross Marshall are all set to walk down the aisle in tonight's episode, but everyone knows an EastEnders wedding can’t get off without a hitch. Especially not when the bride has had an affair with the best man. Ahead of her character’s wedding, Alice Haig talked about what goes down and if Vicki has any lingering feelings for Zack.Over the past few weeks, Vicki and best man Zack (James Farrar), have seemed unable to stay away from each other, despite her impending nuptials to Ross (Alex Walkinshaw). But, Alice has said she thinks Vicki is trying to “put Zack behind her”. Alice said: ”She wants so much for it to be the perfect wedding and this is hanging over her, this dishonesty.READ MORE: Emmerdale's Robert fumes after 'working out' arsonist but it's 'not Kyle or Kammy'READ MORE: Emily Atack says she was touched and sent inappropriate texts by male co-stars as a teen“I think she feels like she can't fully embrace it,” she adds. As such, she turns to her friend and aunt Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), the first person to know about the affair with Zack. “She tells Kathy how guilty she's feeling and in a way that really helps because she kind of finds a bit more sense as to why all of this has happened. She realises that a part of what drew her to Zack was him being not linked to Joel.”Fans will remember the huge storyline concerning Ross’ son Joel (Max Murray), who went down a red-pill pipeline and brutally attacked Vicki, leaving her bleeding on the floor. Joel filmed the horrifying attack and posted it online for all the manosphere to see. Eventually, Joel stood trial for his crimes, where Vicki had to relive her trauma all over again.Alice said she thought Vicki’s attraction to Zack was tied to “her regaining some kind of control over her life and her body after everything that happened with Joel”. But, ultimately, she loves Ross and wants to marry him.“She has been saying from the beginning that she loves Ross and that she doesn't want to be with Zack,” Alice added. “Then her behaviour has said otherwise. This week when she has that realisation that actually it was never about Zack, and was instead about finding herself again and having something that wasn't connected to Joel, I think that has given her much more strength and much more resolve to refuse his offers.”The fan reaction to Vicki and Zack’s affair has been mixed. While some have loved seeing Vicki move away from the Marshalls, others have found it weird, given that Vicki and Zack share a sister, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).Alice said it was “really fascinating” to do a romance storyline, particularly after doing one so “heavy” with Joel. She also thought it was “fun” to see the “strong views” from fans.“There's a group of audience that really don't like the Zack thing because of the incest side of it,” she said. “But obviously they're not related and they never knew each other growing up or that they shared a sister!”Some fans have been hoping this storyline will bring Sharon back to the Square. “Wouldn't that be lovely?” Alice agreed prior to Letitia Dean's return. “Vicki is going to need all the family she can get”, Alice said, but it’s Kathy rather than Sharon who “steps up this week”, even before the wedding. “She's sorting out the marquee, she's organising the flowers, she's got a clipboard, she's ready. She's providing a lot of support for Vicki.”Vicki will also have her brother, Mark, with her. Despite the women of Walford, particularly the Fox family, turning out for Vicki’s hen do, Alice said that she doesn’t have a “sisterhood” around her and Mark will make up her wedding party. “We’ve basically got a tight-knit family group.”While Vicki is ready to marry Ross, things don’t go completely to plan on the wedding day - not least because the affair can’t stay hidden forever. Ross has been having a “slow creeping doubt” over the week leading up to the wedding. Coupled with the fact that Zack “doesn’t behave in the best way”, Ross realises at the altar that his own best man is who she had her affair with.“Zack is still pushing for Vicki, and he starts to drip a little bit of poison in Ross’ ear. He does something that is cruel to both Vicky and Ross and makes Ross paranoid,” Alice revealed. “Two and two start to add up to four for Ross.Article continues below“I think it's so brilliantly done because I think the whole way leading up to that moment we're expecting it to be revealed by Zack,” Alice added. “And then we realise that it's Ross. In that moment obviously there's a huge panic but you'll have to wait and see how she responds to that panic…”Like this story?
