Fars News Agency, an outlet close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), claimed that over the past week, more than 200 vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz after receiving authorization from the Islamic Republic’s navy.

The report stated that bulk carriers and vessels transporting chemical fertilizers were given transit priority, and that the passage process for the ships was conducted in coordination with Iranian naval forces.

Fars also wrote that the Islamic Republic has exerted greater control over maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz in recent months, adding that some foreign analysts have interpreted this situation as a sign of Tehran’s growing leverage over the strategic waterway; however, the media outlet did not provide the specific names of these analysts.

This report was published at a time when the Islamic Republic has repeatedly announced over the past months the imposition of restrictions, inspections, and monitoring over the transit of ships in the Strait of Hormuz, and IRGC officials have spoken of their role in managing maritime traffic in the region.
