President Donald Trump, the oldest person to be inaugurated as U.S. president, gave himself a clean bill of health, declaring that "everything had checked out PERFECTLY" after a physical exam on May 26, less than three weeks ahead of his 80th birthday. The physical exam, the fourth one of his second term, was conducted at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the Washington, DC, area. It came amid months of public scrutiny around visible bruises, skin discoloration and swollen ankles."Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything checked out PERFECTLY," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. "Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff!"An official letter from Dr. Sean Barbabella, the president's physician, was not immediately released. Last April, Trump said he also took a cognitive test and "got every answer right.”Questions about Trump's health have swirled since last summer after he appeared with swelling around his ankles and bruising on the back of his right hand. Then, earlier this year, photographs taken during a Medal of Honor ceremony in March showed discolored skin behind his right ear.The White House said the swelling around the ankles was due to chronic venous insufficiency or CVI, which occurs when leg veins fail to send blood back to the heart properly, and the bruising on the back of his hand was caused by frequent handshaking and aspirin. Trump later had bruising on his left hand, which he blamed on hitting a table. The discoloration behind his right ear was due to a cream, the White House said, without elaborating on what it was for.“President Trump is using a very common cream on the right side of his neck, which is a preventative skin treatment,” Barbabella said in the statement provided to USA TODAY in March. “The President is using the treatment for one week, and the redness is expected to last for a few weeks.”The White House typically determines what data will be released from a president's health exam. Trump is not compelled to release any information, and there is no template for the presidential exam. Trump released only limited information about his health during his presidential campaigns.During the 2024 election, Trump attacked his predecessor, Joe Biden, then 81, for his age and alleged lack of vigor.
