Pope Leo XIV expressed concern over the intensification of Russia’s mass attacks on Ukraine and voiced support for civilians affected by the strikes.
He made the remarks at the end of the General Audience in Saint Peter's Square on Wednesday, according to Vatican News.
“I follow with concern the war in Ukraine, which has sharply intensified in recent days. I wish to express my closeness to all those suffering because of the recent attacks, including those against civilians,” Pope Leo XIV said.
He stressed that war does not solve problems, but only worsens them.
“It does not build security but multiplies suffering and hatred. Wherever missiles and drones fall, hopes also collapse; homes and places of worship are destroyed, and innocent lives are shattered,” the Pope said.
