U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that negotiations with Iran regarding the extension of the ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz will take a few more days. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, May 26, before departing from India, Rubio noted that currently, “there are a lot of discussions underway regarding the text of the preliminary document.”
The U.S. Secretary of State also emphasized that U.S. President Donald Trump will not accept a bad deal. He stated that the most critical point at this moment is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without allowing Iran to levy tolls on vessels passing through the vital waterway. “The Strait of Hormuz must be open, unobstructed, and without tolls,” Rubio said.
These remarks come at a time when the United States, despite the established ceasefire, has conducted new strikes in southern Iran, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced that it reserves the “legitimate and definitive” right to respond to any ceasefire violations by the U.S.
