The directive stems from Singh's abrupt withdrawal from the film Don 3, just three weeks before its scheduled overseas shoot, after significant pre-production expenses had been incurred. Excel Entertainment, the film's producer, is reportedly seeking Rs 450m (£3.49m) in damages from Singh for alleged losses due to his exit. Singh's representatives stated that he considers the matter a contractual dispute and believes FWICE is not the appropriate body to resolve it. Legal experts have criticised FWICE's directive, deeming it “illegal in more ways than one” and an “unlawful restraint of trade”, though the federation remains a respected industry authority.
