Guwahati: The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) recorded robust demand for high-quality teas during Auction Sale No. 22, with several tea gardens achieving impressive price realisations.A major highlight of the auction was a premium lot from Deckiajuli Tea Estate, owned by Parry Agro Industries Ltd., which fetched Rs 800 per kg for the BOPSM grade — the highest price ever achieved by the estate.Situated on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River in Assam’s Sonitpur district, Deckiajuli Tea Estate is widely recognised for producing high-quality, robust black CTC teas known for their rich caramel notes and bright amber liquor.Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on X, “Assam Tea is brewing new records for the world.Deckiajuli Tea has created a new record at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre with a price of Rs 800/kg, reflecting the growing global demand and premium value of Assam Tea.With focused initiatives and sustained policy support, we remain committed to strengthening Assam’s iconic 200-year-old tea industry.”Dinesh Bihani, secretary of the Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association, stated that the tea was marketed by leading broker J Thomas & Co. Pvt. Ltd. and purchased by Jain Tea Company.Bihani, secretary of the Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association, said:“The strong demand for premium Assam teas in both domestic and international markets continues to drive better price realisation at GTAC.The auction system ensures transparency, efficient price discovery, and fair practices for all stakeholders.”He further added that GTAC, one of the largest CTC tea auction hubs globally, plays a pivotal role in strengthening the regional tea economy.Increasingly, tea producers are routing their teas through the platform and expressing satisfaction with the prices achieved.Referring to recent policy support, he noted that the Assam Government’s subsidy of Rs 15 per kg on orthodox teas is expected to encourage more orthodox tea manufacturers to sell through GTAC, potentially transforming it into a major hub for orthodox teas, which have strong export demand.The growing participation in the auction system continues to enhance the global reputation of Assam tea, supported by GTAC’s robust infrastructure and transparent trading environment.In the 2025–26 season, tea from Hookmool Tea Estate also achieved a record price of Rs 831 per kg, marking the highest price for CTC tea at GTAC.
