A grandfather who died saving his family members after they got into difficulty in the water at a Cornish beach has been named and pictured for the first time. Phil Crow, 68, lived in the resort town of Padstow, where he died on Monday afternoon while the beach was particularly busy because of the heatwave and a public holiday.Mr Crow suffered a 'cardiac arrest in the sea' while bravely trying to help two relatives who got into difficulty in the water at Tregirls Beach, at around 3.50pm on the Bank Holiday afternoon.The struggling family members were brought to safety by members of the public before Mr Crow was pronounced dead at the scene.The builder was a popular local figure known for his playful sense of humour, which saw him dress up as a pirate and a superhero for recent events in the town.His widow Tina shared her thanks for rescue teams' efforts to save her husband.She wrote: 'I just need to say a big thank you to all of the emergency services. You are special people and did everything you could to save him, but unfortunately it was not going to be.'Many of you boys knew Phil well and dearly liked him, and thank you for the kindness and care you showed our family, who are heartbroken I know, but we know how hard you tried. Thank you all so much.
