The football governing body initially began negotiations in July 2025, seeking more than $100 million for the 2026 and 2030 World Cups combined.However, it faced muted interest from incumbent JioStar, Sony Pictures Networks India and Zee, forcing it to lower expectations to around $35 million, according to industry executives.India remains among the last major markets where FIFA has struggled to close a media rights agreement. For the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Viacom18 had acquired the India rights for an estimated $61-62 million.The 2026 Men’s FIFA World Cup is expected to generate the highest sponsorship revenue in the tournament’s history, with combined media rights and sponsorship revenues projected to exceed $6 billion, according to estimates by Ampere Analysis.“While FIFA is currently below its target for media rights revenue for this Men’s World Cup, deals are yet to be confirmed in some Asian markets,” said Danni Moore, senior analyst, sports media rights, at Ampere Analysis.
