For more than six decades now, Basavanagudi in Bengaluru has played host to the Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava for the occasion of Ganesha Chaturthi. This year, the festival marks its 63rd edition. Organised by Sri Vidyaranya Yuvaka Sangha, the festival is not just a religious one, but also a cultural gathering. The BGU will be hosted at the APS college grounds, with performances and food stalls at National College in Basavanagudi, from August 27 to September 6, 2025. Nandish SM, Festival Director and Managing Trustee of Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava tells us more about what to expect. August 27, the day of the inauguration, will see a grand Pushpa Alankara Seve and Ganapati Homa, followed by devotional concerts.The evening will feature a powerful performance of noted singer M.D. Pallavi’s soulful Bhakti Sangeetha and a devotional dance performance by Ayana Dance Company.About the performance, Pallavi says, “Performing at the Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava each year is a joyful and celebratory experience. I challenge myself to present something new and special every time, and the organisers and audiences alike expect that freshness.”The beautifully organised festival, from the stage and pujas to the food, creates an unforgettable atmosphere, says Pallavi. “What makes it truly unique is the audience, who deeply appreciate every form of music, whether classical, folk, or film. This year, I am excited to take them on a special Kannada musical journey, celebrating the rich diversity of Karnataka’s music and I am looking forward to it.”Other artistes who will take the stage, include Vijay Prakash, Raghu Dixit, Rajesh Krishnan, Vijay Yesudas, and Praveen Godkhindi. Famed actor Ravichandran will also make an appearance.
