A man who shot and killed his son with a homemade firearm has appealed to the Supreme Court after an appeals court upheld his life sentence, according to legal sources on Tuesday.
The defendant filed the appeal with the Seoul High Court's Incheon branch, after being convicted of murder, attempted murder and violations of the Act on the Safety Management of Guns, Swords and Explosives.

The grounds for his appeal have not been disclosed. Under Article 383 of the Criminal Procedure Act, defendants sentenced to death, life imprisonment or 10 or more years in prison may appeal to the Supreme Court if there are grounds to believe that a significant error of fact influenced the verdict, or that the sentence was unjust.
