Police and prosecutors have launched a full-scale investigation into the collapsed Seosomun Overpass in western Seoul that killed three workers, conducting a joint forensic inspection overnight and forming dedicated task forces to determine the cause of the accident and whether safety rules were violated.
“To swiftly determine the cause of the accident and facilitate the prompt subway normalization of the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, a joint forensic inspection of the accident site was conducted from midnight to around 4 a.m. by relevant agencies, including the police, the National Forensic Service and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency,” the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said in a notice on Wednesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, a section of Seosomun Overpass collapsed during demolition work. The overpass, which was built in 1966, was being dismantled due to aging infrastructure. Demolition began on Aug. 17 last year and was scheduled for completion in early June.
