The former principal of Merishaw School was on Tuesday arraigned in a Nairobi court over alleged examination cheating, but did not take a plea after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga recalled the case for review.

David Gideon Kariuki appeared before a Milimani Law Courts magistrate alongside Alex Kasaine Kataiyo on accusations of conspiring to commit a felony by facilitating examination malpractice. Mr Kasaine worked as a technician at the school.

In the charge sheet registered at the Milimani Law Courts on May 26, 2026, the duo is alleged to have unlawfully disclosed to the candidates examination material of English Paper 1 (101/1) Functional Writing Skills at Merishaw School during the conduct of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
