May 27, 2026 – 5.00amToby Dymond is chief executive officer of Penrite Oil. He is 53 and lives in Melbourne. His family’s wealth of $976 million ranks them at No.181 on the 2026 Financial Review Rich List. What came first, Penrite Oil or the car collection? My dad [JD, who died in 2006] pretty much purchased an old company to fund his passion for cars. Lane 88 is in Wantirna, in our old manufacturing plant. We basically decommissioned the old oil plant and kept the property and made a car museum. My parents emigrated from the UK in the late ’50s. After World War II, there was a lot of car racing throughout Europe and the UK. As a teenager and young adult, my dad went to the races. He could never afford those cars then, so he bought a lot of these cars when he was in his late 60s and 70s. We’ve kept a lot so we could tell the stories of my dad.Subscribe to gift this articleGift 5 articles to anyone you choose each month when you subscribe.Subscribe nowAlready a subscriber?
