Eighteen months after it began, the rivalry between Liam Lawson and Sergio Perez is showing no signs of slowing down.
An untelevised moment from the Canadian Grand Prix, caught on the helmet cams of Lawson and the Mexican driver, shows there is still no love lost between the pair.
Lawson was approaching the back of Perez’s Cadillac when he had to ease off due to a virtual safety car for race leader George Russell’s power unit failure.
Shortly before Russell stopped on track, Lawson’s engineer, Alexandre Iliopolous, told the 24-year-old Kiwi, “Perez is blue flag”.
Blue flags are waved by marshals at back markers when cars on the lead lap are approaching and the slower cars should safely get out of the way. Lawson himself was shown blue flags later in the race when he was lapped by grand prix winner Kimi Antonelli and podium getters Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
