After adapting bestsellers like The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, The Seagull by Anton Chekhov, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and more for the stage, Bengaluru-based Arena Theatre Productions is now bringing Hosseini’s classic A Thousand Splendid Suns to the city. Founded in 2022, the theatre group founded by Tahera S specialises in adapting international bestsellers and critically acclaimed plays. “The novel’s emotional impact comes less from shock and more from the resilience, friendship, and humanity of the women at its centre,” says Tahera, of the story that includes themes of domestic violence, childbirth trauma, patriarchal oppression, poverty and war.
