New Delhi: Quad on Tuesday announced its intention to convene an Indo-Pacific energy security initiative that will involve strategic crude reserve and emergency oil response as the world, including some Quad members, face energy supply chain disruption due to the West Asia war.Quad has decided to convene a fuel security forum to coordinate discussions and facilitate cooperation.India, Australia, Japan and the US are united by a common vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific, underpinned by robust economic and energy systems, according to a statement on the energy security initiative issued after the foreign ministers' meeting."Recognising shifts in the global energy landscape and escalating geopolitical complexities, we are accelerating collaboration to ensure energy stability and security. We recognise that impacts of disruptions to global markets, particularly in relation to oil, gas, and petrochemical products as well as essential goods and critical downstream derivatives such as fertilisers, fall heavily on the Indo-Pacific region. Our leaders have expressed a clear collective intent to cooperate on energy security and resilience," the statement read.Nagaraj Naidu, additional secretary (Americas), MEA, said, "Quad...effort is aimed at leveraging the unique resources that Quad partners bring to the table."Two maritime initiatives Marco Rubio said Quad would work on two maritime initiatives - one that combines surveillance capabilities, and another that will provide enhanced real-time information to commercial traffic at sea.Quad members agreed to jointly build a port in Fiji.
