The father of a 16-year-old girl who died at Kingsbury Water Park 'frantically' searched for his daughter after she went missing in the water, witnesses said17:14, 26 May 2026The father of a teenage girl who died at a country park in north Warwickshire "frantically" searched for his daughter after she went missing in the water, witnesses said.‌Emergency services were called to Kingsbury Water Park, near Tamworth, shortly after 6pm on bank holiday Monday following concerns for the welfare of a girl in the water. Specialist police teams, a helicopter crew, firefighters and paramedics attended, Coventry Live reports.‌Officers confirmed the 16-year-old girl was recovered from the water shortly after 7.20pm and, despite the best efforts of emergency services, was pronounced dead at the scene.‌Eyewitnesses said the girl had been among a group of youngsters jumping from a bridge over The River Tame when she disappeared beneath the surface. Floral tributes have been left at the scene in memory of the victim, identified only as Lil.Speaking at the scene, Chief Inspector Ben Hembry, North Warwickshire Area Commander, said: "We were called at around 6pm to reports of youths in the water. One was in particular difficulty. When we arrived it was identified a female teenager had gone missing underwater.‌"A multi-agency response of police, ambulance and fire all attended as well as a range of support from the park to do an extensive search. Tragically, just after 7pm the body of a female teenager was pulled out of the river and confirmed deceased."I believe she was a local girl and this is an area frequented by young people in hot weather. We are desperate to get the message across for people to stay out of open bodies of water."When asked about reports of youngsters jumping from the bridge, he said: "Across open water where there is the opportunity for young people to do this these practices do take place. And I believe that is part of what took place here yesterday."‌A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It's just awful really, and this is a popular spot on a sunny day. The dad was frantically going up and down the river looking for her."You can't imagine what he is going through today. There were lots of police and fire engines and helicopters just everywhere - it was a massive search."A relative at the scene said: "We don't know exactly what happened yet. There was some people seen jumping off the bridge but she wasn't.‌"There was a young boy her age who jumped in to try and save her at the time. He's the unsung hero, please let the police just do their job as speculation doesn't help."She wasn't able to swim so she was never going to jump off a bridge into the water. All an officer told me is that 'I know it's of limit comfort but she didn't suffer, it was instant' so there has been an incident."‌Another neighbour said: "They were all jumping off into the water off the bridge. They always do it on days like this, but apparently she couldn't really swim and it's quite deep. Her father and her friend waded in, but there are some deep bits."Its full of weeds and silt and things like that. All we saw was them jumping in and then people shouting that someone was missing."We couldn't see anyone splashing around in the water or anything. There was just loads of children. It's just very sad. It's really cold water too. There needs to be more warnings about."‌On Monday, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service issued a warning about the risks of entering open water. The fire service said: "The weather is warming up and you might be tempted to cool off in water, but danger could be lurking under the surface."Even on warm days, the water can still be very cold and cold water shock is highly dangerous. We experience in increase in call-outs to water-related incidents in the summer months. Please help us to keep you safe and avoid entering bodies of water."Kingsbury Water Park has 15 lakes across more than 600 acres of parkland and is managed by Warwickshire County Council.Article continues belowA spokesperson for the council offered their condolences, saying: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of a teenage girl at Kingsbury Water Park over the bank holiday weekend.
