The US Navy announced the resumption of naval escort operations in the Strait of Hormuz Tuesday, with the intention of facilitating merchant shipping in the region.

A Greek-owned tanker carrying two million barrels of crude oil and bound for India was directed by US forces off the coast of Oman, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing military officials.

The move comes after Washington earlier targeted Iranian vessels and while Tehran claims to have shot down a drone involved in that attack.
