Tourist movement along the scenic Athirappilly–Valparai interstate route has come to a standstill after authorities imposed a traffic ban between Vazhachal and Malakkappara after a bridge at Anamala collapsed in the recent heavy rain. The repair works may take at least one week, according to authorities. With the vacation season drawing to a close and a surge in visitors expected, the sudden restriction has dealt a blow to travellers planning trips through the panoramic forest stretch. Officials have enforced strict controls, temporarily prohibiting all vehicle movement along the stretch between Vazhachal and Malakkappara.Vehicles arriving from the Tamil Nadu side, including Pollachi and Valparai, are being stopped at the Malakkappara check post, denying entry into the forest region. Likewise, vehicles heading towards Malakkappara and Valparai from Chalakudy and Athirappilly are being turned back at the Vazhachal check post, with no access permitted beyond that point. The authorities have advised travellers commuting between Tamil Nadu and central Kerala, including Thrissur and Ernakulam, to avoid the forest route and instead use the alternative NH 544 via Palakkad–Mannuthy.Officials have urged the public and tourists to fully cooperate with the restrictions until the road works are completed.
