Heavy rainfall damaged power lines and uprooted trees at a residential area in Chittoor on Tuesday.

Heavy rains lashed the Chittoor municipal limits and surrounding villages on Tuesday evening (May 26, 2026). The rain was accompanied by lightning and a hailstorm for a couple of hours, disrupting normal life across several areas.Traffic on the Chittoor-Bengaluru National Highway, the bypass road, and the Chittoor-Puttur highway came to a halt for a brief period at the outskirts. Residents in many residential localities reported small ice pellets along with an intense downpour.Gales uprooted trees and snapped branches at multiple locations, affecting traffic movement and causing inconvenience to commuters during peak hours. Power supply was also disrupted at several locations after power lines were snapped due to gusty winds. Low-lying areas in Santhapeta, Gandhi Road, and Iruvaram witnessed waterlogging as drains overflowed due to sudden rain.
