Kouame's victory makes him the youngest man to win a match at Roland Garros since 1991, marking a significant moment for the tournament. He is also the youngest man to win a Grand Slam match since Bernard Tomic in 2009 and the youngest to win a Masters match since Rafael Nadal in 2003. The Paris-born teenager, currently ranked 313 in the world, is coached by France’s former world No 7 Richard Gasquet, and his win follows the exit of French favourite Gael Monfils. Kouame will now progress to the second round, where he is set to play either Britain’s 20th seed Cameron Norrie or Paraguay’s Adolfo Daniel Vallejo.
