BRATISLAVA – The European Commission is holding off on freezing Slovakia’s EU funds for now, but warned it is prepared to use “all tools at its disposal” if concerns over the rule of law and protection of EU money continue to deepen under Prime Minister Robert Fico.

In comments to Euractiv’s partner euBrief, the Commission said it would further assess developments in its upcoming 2026 Rule of Law Report, due in July.

“The Commission will continue to monitor the situation and reflect further developments in the upcoming 2026 Rule of Law Report,” a spokesperson said.
