Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as an early frontrunner in the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, after winning in five states in results released so far from the ongoing exercise.
Atiku has recorded victories so far in Sokoto, Abia, Gombe, Ebonyi and Zamfara states, ahead of other contenders, former minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Although the ADC national leadership is yet to officially release collated results from the presidential primary, this report shows figures obtained from party officials and state collation centres.
In Gombe State, Atiku polled 139,334 votes, while Amaechi secured 1,150 votes and Hayatu-Deen got 464 votes. In Abia, Atiku scored 25,153 votes against Amaechi’s 18,339 votes and Hayatu-Deen’s 3,264 votes.
