The Austrian couple had been crossing the 54-yard long wooden suspension bridge that would lead toward the popular Cunca Waterfall but it gave way and the pair fell into the rock-filled river below.‌Their tour guide watched on in horror as the couple fell to their deaths. Photos taken following the bridge collapse show it missing several wooden planks as well as being mangled.The couple reportedly made it just a few yards before it gave way. Authorities said there was nothing they could do to save the couple.‌Fathur Rahman, leader of the local search and rescue team, said: "Both victims were found dead at the scene of the accident." Efforts to retrieve the bodies were difficult with rescuers needing to navigate steep banks and slippery rocks.Cunca Wulang waterfall is well known as a tourist hotspot and is popular for its incredible scenery. It is a remote site located in the jungle of Indonesia and can be difficult for some people to reach.The site of the tragedy has been temporarily closed as officials carry out safety inspections in the area.
