Fubara had recently announced his withdrawal from the Rivers State governorship primary, insisting that the decision was taken after wide consultations and in the interest of peace, unity and stability in the state.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was never expected to seek re-election as part of agreements reached to resolve the lingering political crisis rocking the oil-rich state.
Wike made the revelation on Monday while addressing journalists after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja, stating that Fubara’s decision to obtain nomination forms for another term had violated understandings earlier reached among political stakeholders.
According to the FCT minister, the reconciliation arrangement that halted impeachment threats against Fubara also included a commitment that the governor would not pursue a second term in office.
