The Dutch Healthcare Institute says it does not strive for 100% availability of new drugs, but focuses on rapid access to quality care

The average time it takes to assess a new, expensive hospital medicine for reimbursement decreased by 27 days in 2025 compared to a year earlier, the Dutch Healthcare Institute said.

In a press release seen by Euractiv, which has since been deleted, the healthcare institute said time savings were also achieved in the assessment of prescription medicines dispensed through pharmacies.

A spokesperson for the institute did not elaborate on the retraction but cited “circumstances” hindering them from fully responding to questions on the topic. The spokesperson did say that over the years, the healthcare institute implemented several steps to improve and shorten the drug evaluation process.
