It’s been described as a “local institution” and an “integral part” of the Karangahape Road community, but the clock is now ticking on the future of the last remaining post shop on the Auckland street.

The post shop at Lambs Pharmacy is set to close on June 18, part of a series of cuts by NZ Post to services at 142 urban retail partner stores across New Zealand that were announced in 2025.

At the time, NZ Post said the changes followed a comprehensive review of how postal services were used, with a shift away from letters and toward parcel sending and collection.

They added that its national operation’s retail footprint was too large for current demand, and that the fewer stores that provide postal services will be able to offer a better customer experience.

This decision has not impressed Lambs Pharmacy owner Suresh Rama, who told Stuff that NZ Post never explained to him why his post shop was among the stores that had to close.
