Aisha Al Rumaihi crossed the stage at the Qatar National Convention Centre on Sunday, May 3. She received a doctorate in Sustainable Energy from Hamad Bin Khalifa University. By Monday morning, she was back at her job at QatarEnergy, where she works in the safety and emergency response division. She has spent the past months of war helping plan evacuations and shelters at the Ras Laffan industrial complex.
Her education is fully Qatari – Bachelor’s degree from Qatar University, Master’s and doctorate from Hamad Bin Khalifa University. She received a Qatar National Research Fund award. She completed the Qatar Leadership Centre’s Rising Leaders Programme in 2020. She did not study at any foreign university.
“I joined Hamad Bin Khalifa University in 2016,” Ms. Al Rumaihi said. “I found this major unique. It hasn’t been offered in any other university locally. Why not support local?”
That phrase, “support local,” explains what happened in Education City this week.
Hamad Bin Khalifa University graduated more than 300 students from 36 academic programmes on Sunday. It was the largest class in the university’s history.
