The Nigeria Immigration Service on Monday raised the alarm over what it described as a rising wave of fraudulent migration schemes and irregular cross-border activities being perpetrated by individuals and organised criminal networks across the country.

It warned that young women and girls are particularly at risk of being lured into trafficking and forced labour through deceptive promises of opportunities abroad.

The warning was contained in a statement signed on Monday by the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, titled ‘Public Advisory on Fraudulent Migration Schemes and Irregular Migration.’

It read, “The Service warns that criminal networks often target vulnerable individuals, particularly young women and girls, through deceptive offers of employment, education, and opportunities for a better life abroad.

“These schemes frequently result in forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation.”
