The Nigerian Army has said that its troops of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have killed two suspected armed bandits during a tactical operation in Taraba State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and ammunition from the scene.

The military said that the operation was carried out on May 24, 2026, following credible intelligence reports of gunshots heard in a forest area near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost in Akate District of Donga Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued on Monday, May 25, by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, troops swiftly mobilised to the area and launched a coordinated raid on the suspected criminal hideout.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the troops encountered suspected armed assailants and engaged them in a gun duel. During the exchange, two of the suspected criminals were neutralised,” Muhammad stated.
