AC Milan are cleaning house with a number of key personnel, including head coach Massimiliano Allegri, paying the price for the club missing out on Champions League qualification.Milan have failed to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition for the second straight year, with Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Cagliari seeing them fall from third to fifth place in the league table.The club had been a firm contender in the Scudetto race, but a mid-season collapse dented their hopes. They went on to lose seven of their final 14 Serie A games, allowing rivals Inter to win the title.Allegri will now depart alongside sporting director Igli Tare, chief executive Giorgio Furlani and technical director Geoffrey Moncada in a radical shake-up of the top of the club.The decision has been made by owner Gerry Cardinale following discussions with senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic and board member Massimo Calvelli.Cardinale is the founder of RedBird Capital Partners, the U.S. investment firm which has owned Milan since 2022.

A club statement read: “After the disappointment of last year, the mandate ownership set for the club was to return to the Champions League and to establish a foundation for winning consistently at the top of Serie A.“For the majority of this season, we were in the top two positions in Serie A, with a credible shot at competing for the Scudetto. Effective immediately, we are parting ways with CEO Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, head coach Massimiliano Allegri and technical director Geoffrey Moncada. We thank each one for their hard work and dedication to AC Milan during their respective tenures.“Further announcements regarding the next appointments will be made in due course — with the goal to be ready and well prepared for the next season.”Allegri returned for a second spell at Milan in May 2025 to replace Sergio Conceicao. He previously spent three and a half years at the club between 2010 and 2014, winning the Serie A title in 2010-11 and the Supercoppa the following year.In total second time around with Milan, Allegri took charge of 42 games, winning 22, drawing 10 and losing 10.Tare was appointed Milan sporting director in May 2025 after a successful 15-year spell at Lazio. Furlani replaced Ivan Gazidis as the club’s CEO in 2022, and Moncada joined the club in 2018.Como and Roma capitalised on Milan’s collapse and will join Inter and Napoli in the Champions League next season. Milan and sixth-placed Juventus will play in the Europa League while Atalanta, who finished seventh, will compete in the Conference League.
