MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) is seeking a P1.5-billion budget next year to establish food safety laboratories in 10 regions across the country.
In an interview on Monday, BPI director Gerald Glenn Panganiban said that, if approved, the proposed budget will fund equipment to test the quality of rice and other agricultural products sold in the market.
Panganiban said the funding request will boost the agency’s ability to detect contaminants and support initiatives on good agricultural practices and food safety regulations.
