What a treat to celebrate again with my friends from the Paley Center,” Smith wrote on Instagram after the event.“Kate and I were so lucky to attend and accept this on behalf of our Charlie’s Angels family, continuing in our celebration of 50 years since the launch of the series. Grateful doesn’t begin to encompass how I feel to have been and continue to be a part of that legacy.”Jackson, for her part, said at the gala that the series’ staying power has continued to impress her over the decades.“Oh, it's wonderful,” she said. “I mean, that we would be here 50 years later, 50 years after the debut, and it's still on television all over the world, never has gone off. It's just really amazing.”The original ABC crime drama originally starred Smith, Jackson and Farah Fawcett as its three private investigators who left the police academy to work for their mysterious boss.Charlie’s Angels went on to become a pop culture staple and inspired the 2000s film franchise, which starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu.Smith told Fox News Digital that she did not expect the series to make her one of TV’s most recognizable stars as a style icon.“When I was starting out, no,” she said. “But I guess we did pave the way for some glamor and looking at women in a different way. We sort of paved that way for new roles for women.”
