Police to provide update on ‘violent’ extortion ring targeting South Asian businesses in Brampton, Mississauga

Peel police is set to provide an update on Monday morning related to a “major” Extortion Task Force investigation that led to multiple arrests.In 2023, the police service had established the task force to deal with extortion, especially against South Asian businesses who Peel police said were being “singled out.”The update, expected to be livestreamed on Monday at 9 a.m., is also connected to a “violent network” that targets South Asian business owners in Brampton and Mississauga. Peel police said the network has links to incidents across Canada and the United States.
