Marco Rubio has stated that Washington will either achieve a “good deal” with Iran or pursue other options. Speaking to Fox News early Monday morning regarding the trajectory of negotiations with the Islamic Republic, Rubio said that the administration of Donald Trump still prefers diplomacy, but the United States is prepared to take a different path should the talks fail.

Without making any direct reference to military action, he emphasized that the U.S. government will not permit Iran to attain the capability to threaten the interests of the United States and its regional allies.

The U.S. Secretary of State also noted that Washington believes an agreement remains within reach and that negotiations will continue in the coming days.

Rubio’s remarks come as U.S. officials have spoken in recent days about progress in talks with the Islamic Republic, prompting global markets to react to news regarding the possibility of a deal between Tehran and Washington.
